HELP US RAISE AWARENESS WITHIN OUR SAINT LUKE COMMUNITY!
The Care for Creation Committee at Saint Luke Parish provides a forum for our parishioners to gather regularly to support each other in promoting the message of Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. With the guidance and collaboration with our Bishop, Pastor and Care for Creation Network, we prayerfully embrace our calling to care for God’s gift of creation by exchanging ideas and resources to educate our fellow parishioners on environmental threats and opportunities for action.
The Laudato Si’ encyclical takes its name from the invocation of St. Francis, “PRAISE BE TO YOU”, in his Canticle of the Creatures. It reminds us that the earth, our common home “is like a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us”. We have forgotten that “we ourselves are dust of the earth; our very bodies are made up of her elements, we breathe her air and we receive life and refreshment from her waters.”

The Care for Creation Ministry at Saint Luke meets regularly to discuss parish-wide initiatives that promote positive environmental change through education, individual action and community outreach in the spirit of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’.

Our Mission
Saint Luke Care for Creation Ministry is a group of parishioners seeking to follow Pope Francis and his Laudato Si’ encyclical. Through prayerful actions and educational efforts in our parish and community, we hope to heal and protect our beautiful and unique planetary home, sustaining all human life and the natural abundance and beauty that is God’s greatest gift to His people.

Our Initiatives
COMPOSTING
We have partnered with Monster Organics to provide composting services throughout our parish.
PILL BOTTLE RECYCLING
One of our ongoing projects is to mail pill bottles, from which we remove the labels and thoroughly wash, to Matthew 25: Ministries in Ohio. Matthew 25: Ministries includes the bottles in shipments to non-profits providing disaster relief and/or medical care in underprivileged communities. We mail circa 200 bottles each month.
SOLAR ROOF PROJECT
Our solar roof project reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship, renewable energy, and the call to care for God’s creation.
FAIR TRADE SALES
4th Annual Fair Trade Sales
We carefully curate fair trade, handmade products that support skilled artisans, protect the planet, and help build stronger communities around the world.
NATIVE PLANT SALES
Our 2026 Spring Native Plant Sales will be on April 18 & 19 after all Sunday Masses. All proceeds will be used for campus-wide composting.
